I want to present these loves, partnerships, families and lives, to provide the mirror of experience that was so lacking for me growing up. My family never saw our selves reflected in any media. It was, in some ways, a lonely road. My Dad is southern Chinese from Hawaii, Mom northern European mix, from the Northeast and Midwest. This project is a deeply personal one. This project is part of a conversation we are only beginning to have in my family. Join me in sharing your love. What is it that draws you together? What did you first notice about the other? What are the delights, and the challenges, of your relationship? How have societal 'isms' affected you and your partner(s)? What would you say to someone embarking on a path such as yours? What do you wish you had known? Together we will play, create some images, weave some words and tell a bit of your story. You get to 'write your own captions': to give the words that will accompany your images. Your threads will join others in weaving a quilt of many colors, unified by love and courage. Your story, the story you live every day, will heal, inspire, and seed dreams. Intrigued? Want to share your story? We do: * Spend an hour or so together * Have a playful and fun photo session in a place or two of your comfort and choosing * Do a brief interview, to be recorded on audio (and perhaps video, but that's optional) You get: * A dozen or two prints of your choice * Small size (web size) files of the whole set to share with friends, etc. * A transcript of the interview, when/if it's transcribed. * A copy of the book, if you're in it and there is one (!) * To 'write your own captions' What would you have people know about you when they look at the images? * Veto power over any images (I might lobby, but if there's anything you really don't like we'll throw out) * Big, big, thanks Kwai Lam has been photographing for forty years. Helping people to see their own spark, beauty and spirit is his delight. Tools include video, audio, stills and interviews. He has worked extensively documenting communities: queer, pagan, dance and others. Much of his work remains private within the community. Work has been printed in Magical Blend, RFD, The Advocate, and other publications worldwide.

Water Meditations : My fine art photography & video now focuses on water. Water has always fascinated me in many ways: its many forms, the ways it moves, its' transformational powers, its' fundamental role in life on earth. What makes water water? When I drink water I always wonder how old it is? What does age mean in reference to water? How many times through the liquid—evaporation—condensation cycle has it been? For that matter, what is 'it' in the context of water? Water exemplifies the power of the gentle and fluid to create change in even the hardest of substances. Ever been to the bottom of a river canyon? Think about the water wearing the rock and creating the canyon over many, many, years. Water plays major roles in a number of spiritual and magical traditions. It reflects: remember Narcissus? But the reflection it provides can be a tricky one: sometimes the difference between 'reflection' and 'illusion' is naught. It cleanses—and that on lots of levels. Our relationship with water typifies that we have with the earth, our environment, and the rest that nurtures and sustains us. Unfortunately these days abuse and commoditzation best describe this relationship. On the one hand we pollute with abandon, we bottle 'special' water and ship it around the globe, local water distribution systems go on the auction block and are traded on an international market. (A Canadian friend points out that the Canadians exempted water from NAFTA and are worried that the USA might invade them for their water. Far fetched, maybe.) Water has many lessons to teach us, we have only to attend. When photographing, I always ask 'who wants to be portrayed, and how? What do you want to share with the world?' These images are some of water's answers.

Environment, location, lighting, emotion, fun "Where do you feel most comfortable, the best" and "what do you want to show?" are often where I start my dialog with portrait clients. Groups, families, parties Event organizers often bring me in to produce portraits and "photo-directories" of their event's participants. Imagine a "yearbook", but with consistently great photos. Glamor Studio to Go/15 seconds of fame On request I can provide a portable studio, with the fancy lights, background, etc...and a projector to boot. People take turns playing model, and as they do their image is projected larger than life for all to admire.
